Duck King is officially back in South Town.
SNK released the veteran Fatal Fury character for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on August 27, making him the second playable fighter released as part of Season Pass 3.
His return brings considerably more than another DLC slot.
SNK has paired Duck King's launch with new story content and a special animated short created by veteran anime director and animator Masami Obari, connecting City of the Wolves' current season directly with the long history of Fatal Fury.
Duck King first appeared in the original Fatal Fury in 1991.
His unusual combination of dance movement and martial arts immediately separated him from much of the franchise's cast.
More than three decades later, that identity remains central to his City of the Wolves incarnation.
Duck is presented as one of South Town's most energetic fighters, with his relationship to Terry Bogard and his connection to the Pao Pao Café once again playing important roles in his story.
City of the Wolves gives him separate narratives across Arcade Mode and Episodes of South Town.
In Episodes of South Town, Duck King pursues Wolfgang Krauser.
The motivation comes from an old defeat that left Duck without the rematch he wanted after Krauser disappeared from his life.
Krauser's return to South Town finally creates that opportunity.
Duck King's Arcade Mode storyline takes a different approach.
Richard Meyer informs him that outside parties are attempting to purchase the Pao Pao Café.
Duck responds by entering the tournament with the intention of using its prize money to help protect the venue.
The story simultaneously gives him another chance to cross paths with Terry Bogard.
SNK is also using the character's release to celebrate the broader Fatal Fury franchise.
A new animated short directed by Masami Obari accompanies the beginning of Season 3.
The animation brings Duck King together with DJ and producer Salvatore Ganacci while also featuring Terry Bogard, Rock Howard and Rick Strowd.
Obari's participation carries particular weight for longtime Fatal Fury fans.
He previously served as character designer and chief animation director on Fatal Fury's television anime projects and directed Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture.
His return therefore links SNK's modern fighting game directly with one of the franchise's most recognizable animated eras.
Duck King also provides another step in what is shaping up to be an unusually aggressive DLC schedule.
Rick Strowd opened Season 3 and is already available.
Duck King follows in August.
Kim Kaphwan is scheduled for September, another currently unannounced character is planned for October, Laocorn arrives in November and a final mystery fighter is planned for December.
That means SNK intends to give City of the Wolves a new Season 3 character every month through the end of 2026.
For a fighting game competing for attention against Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 and several other active titles, that cadence is important.
Fighting games increasingly rely on regular character releases to bring players back into training mode, create new matchup discussions and refresh tournament brackets.
SNK appears determined to keep City of the Wolves inside that conversation throughout the remainder of the year.
Duck King is particularly well suited to that strategy.
He is not simply another modern DLC creation.
He represents the earliest era of Fatal Fury while arriving inside SNK's newest fighting game more than 35 years later.
The character's return, combined with Obari's animation and the continuing Season 3 schedule, shows how aggressively SNK is using the history of Fatal Fury to support the future of City of the Wolves.
And the season is only getting started.
