*Evo’s clip of the French player’s classic gamepad approached half a million post views as MarkMan joined in with a joke about its age.*
Luffy has given Street Fighter fans another reason to look closely at his setup. In a clip posted by Evo on October 9, the camera shows the French player alongside Betty before moving down to a familiar piece of hardware: his grey PlayStation controller.
The close-up catches its coloured face buttons and the sticker across the centre. Captioned “That throwback controller, though?”, the 29-second video puts the old pad front and centre during Evo France 2026.
By the morning of October 11, Evo’s original X post had recorded approximately **479,000 views**, more than 2,500 likes and 284 reposts.
Mark Julio, better known in the FGC as MarkMan, added to the moment with a Japanese-language quote post joking that the controller was older than Luffy’s opponent. His response had also attracted around **240,000 post views** by the time of reporting.
For longtime Street Fighter followers, the setup carries a familiar history. Luffy won Evo’s Street Fighter IV tournament in 2014 using a PS1 controller.
That connection gives the footage an appeal beyond the hardware itself. A controller design associated with a famous Evo victory is still getting its own close-up at a modern Street Fighter event.
